WHY
Outdoor equipment is expensive and confusing and many people have historically been denied access to the gear, knowledge, and skills they need to recreate, explore, and move safely outdoors. Members of marginalized communities (queer, trans, BIPOC, fat, disabled, working class, etc.) face increased obstacles to outdoor recreation and resources.
Outdoor adventures and interactions with nature connect us with the planet, our communities, and ourselves. Everyone deserves access to the outdoors, but many of us face barriers to getting outside and moving our bodies in nature in ways that feel meaningful and joyful. The Kindling Collective’s goal is to reduce these barriers through an outdoor gear library and education center in Portland, Maine.
